About Issaquah Dental Lab
Larry Searles
Larry grew up on
the shores of Lake Sammamish in Washington State, graduating from
Issaquah High School in 1970. Larry worked his way through
school playing trumpet in a five piece swing band called The Easy Street Band
which survives to this day. He graduated from Seattle
Central College with an AA degree in Dental Technology in 1972.
He began working for three dentists in Issaquah in 1971, from which
Issaquah Dental Lab was born. Immediately after graduation in 1972
he began a tradition of countless technical continuing education
programs and added many leadership and business courses along the
way. He served four years on the board for the Washington State
Dental Lab Association. Larry partnered with George and other lab
professionals, working on the development of the outcome skill
standards for the dental lab profession.
In July 1995 Larry
merged Issaquah Dental Lab with Englund Dental Lab. Four years after
that they moved to their current facility and fulfilled their dream
of opening the Northwest Dental Forum--their long-awaited educational
facility.
Larry has returned to the shores of
Lake Sammamish with his wife, Elise. His past hobbies have included hang-gliding,
ultralights, motocross, snow and water skiing, windsurfing, boating,
fishing. Today its aerobatics, receiving his private pilot's license in 1979, glider
rating in 1980 and float plane rating in 1997. Most recently he
completed aerobatic flight training in June 2000 and currently flies
aerobatics in a Great Lakes open-cockpit bi-plane. Larry's dance band started up again in 2003 as an 8 piece swing band, playing for weddings and special event celebrations. He is currently serving on the
King County Donated Dental Services Advisory Task Force.

George Englund
Raised on Mercer Island,
Washington, George Englund attended a private dental tech school
in Seattle, graduating in 1977. He then worked in Virginia Mason
Hospital's dentistry practice for three years before opening Englund
Dental Lab in 1980. He has served
on the board of the Washington State Dental Lab Association. George
partnered with Larry and other lab professionals, working on the
development of the outcome skill standards for the dental
lab profession.
In 1995 he merged Englund Dental Lab
with Issaquah Dental Lab.
George is an active student and sought-after
speaker on the topic of all-ceramic restorations. He has presented
his material many times since 1990 with Dr. Vic Barry. They have
spoken at the Washington State Dental Association and American Dental
Association meetings, among many others across the U.S. George currently
serves as the Executive director of the Northwest Dental Forum.
George has a passion for writing, and
draws from extensive experience as a parent of five children with
his wife Carolyn. A former foster parent, George has a huge heart
for children and families.
George is also an outspoken advocate
for the Platelet Program at the Puget Sound Blood Center encouraging
others to not only donate platelets but to register for screening
in the National Bone Marrow Registry. (For more information about
